Rugby 1FM -continued
A number of articles about the Rugby 1FM License Bid were seen in local paper the Rugby Observer right up until the winning applicant was announced by the Radio Authority.
During the late summer of 2000 a number of consultations and meetings were held in Rugby and the surrounding villages in a bid to gain further support from local residents. A number of roadshows were also held in the Rugby town centre area, which will be remembered for the wet windy weather we were out in!!
Rugby 1FM Press Articles from the Rugby Observer - Autumn 2000
Although an official frequency was never formally discussed for Rugby 1FM it was expected that the station would be licensed (if successful) to broadcast on 107.1FM
A revised logo was seen in the Rugby Observer in late 2000 showing the 107.1FM frequency. The bumble bee was an intergral part of the groups advertising strategy as it was designed to be part of the stations name, it would be the "RUG BEE" (rugby) Unfortunately The Rugby Observer didn't really seem to pick up on this and the bee was used as more of a colourful throw in rather than a character, as he was originally conceived!
Maybe we should have played more on the character and called the station "Rugbee 1FM"
