![]() | More About Music One.
Originally Music One had applied to broadcast on 106.6FM and was provisionally granted authority to use this frequency, but two days before Music One took to the air the Radio Authority re-licensed the station using 87.8FM as the frequency granted for broadcast on.
The simple reason for the change was that a local commercial radio station in Peterborough broadcasting on 106.6FM at the time was thought to be within a distance at which the broadcasts may clash, and thus the decision was made to re-license the station on a frequency which would not clash with any other existing broadcasters (although 87.8FM is very close to the 88.2FM frequency used by BBC Radio 2 on older radio's with analogue knob tuning). |
| Before we came to use the Music One logo that was seen by all we had a more simplified logo featuring a large red 1 with the word Music before it in green. The design team at the Rugby Advertiser came up with several logo's that we could have used before we settled upon the one you see today. Unfortunately we couldn't get hold of any of the alternate logo's to show you, but we did jazz the logo up for our Online station Music1Radio. |
So who were some of the people that made Music One the success it was??
Well Richard Green had been involved with Rugby Hospital Radio before Music One, a keen fundraiser and supporter of local enterprises. Richard's Drivetime show on Music One brought together pillars of the community in the "Hotseat" alongside an informative, light-hearted look at the world.
David Percy presented Saturday Sports on Music One. Having been working in the media for many years on commercial radio stations David had been working in Leicestershire prior to joining the team at Music One. | ![]() |
Ok, so thats just two, well Station Manager Keith Greenwood went on to become a Non Executive Director of "Rugby 1FM" a group who bid for the full time broadcasting rights in Rugby. After the group were unsuccessful he went on to enjoy a career in Retail Mangement, currently working for the UK's largest DIY chain.
Tom Greenwood (yes related) also helped with the Rugby 1FM license application and worked for a charity radio station in following years. Tom now works in Retail Management for the UK's largest Catalogue retailer.
Nathan Pestridge worked in food retail after Music One and then went on to work in media, broadcasting on a local commercial station in Warwickshire. He currently works for a local radio station in Banbury.
Phil Smith and Ben Taylor continued their broadcasting on Rugby Hospital Radio at St Cross Hospital in Rugby for several months. Phil still remains an avid supporter of the charitable station.
